Automakers and quick-lube chains are stretching the recommended interval between oil changes, but local experts say Southwest Florida motorists who push it a little more may be asking for trouble.

The standard recommendation for an oil change every 3,000 miles is becoming less common, with some new car manuals recommending an oil change only once a year or every 10,000 miles.
